M-Net’s East Africa focused entertainment channel Maisha Magic East has unveiled NIRA, a new Swahili drama that premieres on the channel on Monday, 1st February 2016 at 8.30pm on DStv 158 and GOtv 4.
NIRA, the brainchild of Multan Productions, is an urban set Swahili drama featuring the crème de la crème of Swahili actors brought together by a partnership between Kenya and Tanzania.
Famous Tanzanian actor, Daudi Michael, who played Duma in hit series Siri Ya Mtungi and Mombasa’s Queen Mwangi, who was the face of Almasi TV show are some of the celebrity actors in the new show.
Other talent in the new drama include Ruth Maingi of the Mama Duka show.
“There is definitely a lot of talent to look forward to and we would not like to give all the excitement away,” said Margaret Mathore, Channel Manager Maisha Magic East.
NIRA a story of inheritance struggle facing Mzee Malik’s family as he tries to unite his children just before his death. His business empire risks collapsing if his feuding children do not get to the table and agree on how to hold together his legacy after his death. The show is part of the on-going effort by MultiChoice to offer its subscibers compelling truly authentic Kenyan stories as well as partake in the growth of the Kenyan film industry.
MultiChoice, which accounts for over 40% of all the money paid to production houses in Kenya, has also invested over Ksh.1.5 billion in local content production facilities like the recently-launched state-of-the-art MNet and SuperSport Studios in Nairobi.
These studios have become a production venue for a variety of local shows including Vitimbi, Kona, and Coca-Cola’s Coke Studio Africa among others.
Nira now adds to other popular Maisha Magic East shows including Tujuane Plus, One In A Million, Ajabu, Sumu La Penzi, Nyumba Kumi, among others.
The show will broadcast every Monday through Friday at 8.30 pm.
