Tour Kenya right from your phone
By Lilian Kaivilu
As the festive season nears, not many will have the privilege to travel upcountry or to other destinations. Perhaps your income will not allow you, or your work schedule is a bit demanding. But there is a solution for those who love touring different parts of the country.
At the comfort of your house and with the convenience of a mobile phone, you will be able to take a virtual tour of the country’s historical sites that would otherwise be found only at the National Museums of Kenya or the Kenya National Archives.
Through the Kenya National Archives App available of Google App Store, you will be able to take a virtual tour of pictures and descriptions of Kenya’s history, African carvings as well as sculptures. The navigation through the app is quite fast thus making the experience more enjoyable.
However, there is still not much information on most of the African culture especially clothing. This is despite the fact that Kenyan and African fabrics are envied world-over. Such include the Kitenge, the Maasai shuka and the Kiondo.
And if you still want to visit the Kenya National Archives in person during this festive season, the App makes it even easier by offering the map to the place. The app also gives you the working hours so that you do not miss your chance. For example, on this app, you will be notified on the homepage that the facility operates between 8:15am and 4:15pm on weekdays, 8:15am and 1:00pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays and public holidays.
