Lex International Fund, a philanthropic fund hosted by the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, has announced a series of travel grants to support talented journalists in covering nuclear weapons issues during the Third Meeting of States Parties to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. The meeting would take place from March 3rd to 7th 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, NY.
Nuclear weapons are a major global threat, back on the top of the agenda for nuclear-armed states amid growing instability and nuclear threats. In response, a majority of the world’s states are actively working to counter this trend through the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. However, this work remains significantly underreported.
It’s expected that over 100 governments will gather at the Meeting of States Parties to the TPNW on 3-7 March in New York, particularly to launch a more coordinated effort to tackle the threat of nuclear-armed states’ arsenals.
The gathering will focus on key issues such as implementing disarmament commitments, addressing the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons, and fostering international cooperation to challenge the policies of nuclear deterrence.
Lex International Fund is launching this series of travel grants to support more journalistic coverage about diplomatic efforts around nuclear weapons.
What the grant entails
Successful applicants will be awarded a grant to cover travel (economy class flights), accommodation, and other costs related to attending the Meeting of States Parties. Journalists will be responsible for securing their own media accreditation and access to the UN, and any other administrative responsibilities necessary to attend the Meeting of States Parties.
