
The Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) is hiring an Associate Director of Finance (ADF) to be based in Kenya, as part of its strategic push to scale its financial oversight and support its blended finance model.
AECF is a development institution that supports early and growth-stage businesses to drive innovation, create jobs, and improve livelihoods in rural and marginalized communities across Africa.
The ADF role is designed for a dynamic financial leader with experience in donor-funded programs and commercial lending. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on financial management to support AECF’s work in grants and commercial capital.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Finance will:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to define and implement AECF’s long-term strategy.
- Partner with the Director of Finance & Operations to align strategic vision with daily financial management.
- Drive financial scenario planning, risk assessments, and decision-making to ensure sustainable growth.
- Oversee compliance with IFRS and local financial and tax regulations.
- Provide timely analysis of budgets, financial reports, and trends, assisting the board and management in decision-making.
- Ensure AECF’s financial systems support growth, new programs, and operational complexity.
- Manage cash flow, transaction processing systems, and financial reporting to donors and partners.
Investment and Fundraising Support
In collaboration with the investments team, the ADF will:
- Help identify funding opportunities, design financial structures, and model strategies that align with AECF’s goals.
- Optimize investment strategies and ensure sufficient liquidity.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent.
- 10+ years of senior financial management experience in both commercial lending and donor-funded environments.
- Expertise in debt fund structures and financial instruments like loans and quasi-equity.
- Strong skills in donor compliance and reporting processes, especially for bilateral donors.
- Fluency in English (French is a plus).
