Project for Love, a global educational movement promoting empathy and compassion in schools, has announced the expansion of its programs to Uganda and Tanzania.
The initiative builds on existing work in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, and Rwanda, marking a significant step in the organization’s mission to transform learning through love, integrity, and service.
The extension aims to strengthen school infrastructure, support teacher training, and embed compassion-based learning in classrooms.
According to the organization, the goal is to nurture both academic excellence and emotional intelligence, helping learners grow into ethical, self-aware, and socially responsible citizens.
Eduardo Said Pichardo Gelly, the Global Director of Project for Love, said the organization’s philosophy is grounded in a simple but powerful idea that true happiness comes from serving others.
“I began this journey practicing loving-kindness meditation,” he said.
“It transformed my worldview. True happiness comes when we seek the joy of others. That vision guides everything we do.”
Project for Love has set an ambitious target to reach 300,000 schools and impact 30 million children globally over the next decade.

Africa, Pichardo Gelly emphasized, remains central to this mission.
The expansion into Uganda and Tanzania will focus on revitalizing rural schools, introducing mindfulness programs, and empowering teachers to create inclusive, caring classrooms.
“Our work goes beyond infrastructure,” he said.
“We’re aiming to reshape educational culture by embedding kindness, empathy, and integrity into every learning experience.”
In its current programs across the continent, the organization has already introduced teacher development workshops and emotional intelligence training, while promoting mentorship and ethical education for students.
The new partnerships in Uganda and Tanzania are designed to build on this foundation, ensuring that compassion-based learning becomes an integral part of national education systems.
Local collaboration remains key to Project for Love’s model.
The organization works closely with ministries of education, school leaders, and community-based organizations to adapt its programs to local needs.
“The real heroes are those on the ground bringing this vision to life,” Pichardo Gelly noted.
The expansion comes at a time when educators across Africa are seeking new ways to improve learning outcomes and strengthen student well-being.
By combining values-based education with practical support for schools, Project for Love hopes to demonstrate that compassion can be a powerful force for sustainable development.
“We’re not just reforming education,” said Pichardo Gelly.
“We’re leading a global movement toward shared humanity and sustainable living.”
With its latest move into East Africa, Project for Love continues to advance a model of education that blends heart and mind, one classroom, one teacher, and one act of kindness at a time.
