Nairobi, Kenya: Residents of Lamu County will benefit from improved maternal health services after the Safaricom Foundation handed over maternity equipment to Siyu Dispensary.
The assorted equipment, valued at KES 4.2 million, includes delivery beds, hospital beds and bedding, oxygen concentrators, hospital furniture, computers, diagnostic machines and delivery kits. The upgrade will reduce congestion and improve the quality of maternal healthcare services to over 5,000 residents of Siyu and its environs.
“Partnerships are the key to attaining SDG 3, which focuses on promoting good health and well-being for all. Since 2017, we have successfully partnered with the County Government of Lamu, investing over KES 80 million in maternity care initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of more than 33,000 people. In our 2023-2026 strategy, we aim to revamp maternal healthcare services in order to reach more people throughout the country,” said Joseph Ogutu, Safaricom Foundation Chairman.
The Foundation equipped the maternity room constructed by the County Government, which elevated the facility to a full-fledged health center.
This marks the sixth facility that Safaricom Foundation has assisted in upgrading in Lamu County since 2017, following the renovation of Kiwayu Dispensary and the upgrading of Mpeketoni Sub County Hospital, King Fahd Referral Hospital, and Faza Sub-county Hospital, along with the construction of a maternal shelter at Witu Hospital and purchase of a boat ambulance.
