The chosen theme reflects a critical moment in the global gender equality movement. “Despite years of progress, we are now witnessing an alarming pushback against women’s rights,” said AWIEF Founder and CEO Irene Ochem. “This year’s theme is both a warning and a rallying cry. The time to act is now.”
Echoing recent remarks by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who warned of an “aggressive backlash” against gender equality, AWIEF2025 will tackle the urgent need to safeguard and accelerate gains for women across sectors. The conference will serve as a bold platform to inspire action, forge partnerships, and co-create solutions that dismantle barriers to women’s full participation in Africa’s economic future.
Building on the momentum of AWIEF2024, which hosted over 1,000 participants from more than 50 countries—including 42 African nations—the upcoming event is set to offer even greater opportunities for learning, networking, and empowerment.
