the Future For Nature Foundation
Applications are now open for the 2026 Future For Nature (FFN) Awards, offering young conservationists a unique opportunity to earn international recognition, funding, and access to a global network of peers and experts.
The award honors individuals who have made a lasting and measurable impact on the protection of wild animal and plant species.
Launched in the Netherlands, the Future For Nature Foundation has, since its inception, supported:
- 54 Award Winners
- From 35 different countries
- With over €2.7 million in total prize funding
The program’s mission is to empower young, talented, and ambitious conservationists committed to safeguarding the planet’s biodiversity.
These individuals are recognized not only for their hands-on results but also for the leadership and inspiration they bring to communities, organizations, governments, and the public.
What the Award Offers
Each year, three winners are selected. Each recipient receives:
- A €50,000 cash prize to further their conservation efforts
- Travel and accommodation for the award ceremony in the Netherlands
- A platform to present their work at the Royal Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem
- International exposure through FFN’s network and media channels
- Ongoing connection with a global community of conservation professionals
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be 18–35 years old (born between 30 June 1990 and 30 August 2007)
- Be applying as individuals, not as groups or organizations
- Have achieved real, measurable conservation results—this is not a project grant
- Be the primary driving force behind the conservation work
- Be fluent in English for both written application and public presentation
- Not have applied the previous year (unless 2026 is their final eligible year due to age)
Application Process
Candidates must complete an online application form, which includes:
- Detailed documentation of their ongoing conservation work
- Description of their impact and methods
- Two reference letters from individuals familiar with their work
- Willingness to provide additional media (photos/videos) if shortlisted
The selection panel evaluates all submissions and shortlists 6 to 12 finalists, who may be asked to provide further information.
From these, three winners are selected and invited to present their work at the official ceremony in May 2026.
Why It Matters
The Future For Nature Award isn’t just a cash prize—it’s a career accelerator. For conservationists working in difficult environments, it offers:
- Global recognition of their work and impact
- Validation and legitimacy, which can help attract further funding and support
- A chance to influence environmental policies and mobilize more people around their cause
Award winners are often seen as role models and agents of change.
Their ability to inspire and mobilize others has far-reaching effects—not just for species survival, but also for shaping the future of global conservation efforts.
Application Deadline
The deadline to apply is 25 August 2025 at 23:59 Central European Summer Time (CEST).
All materials must be submitted by then to be considered for the 2026 cycle.
