Christian Aid
Christian Aid is inviting applications for the role of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Specialist.
A contract position based in Nairobi that supports a vital cross-border programme targeting violence against women and girls in Sudan’s North Darfur and South Kordofan regions.
The role comes as part of a European Union Foreign Policy Instrument (EU/FPI) funded project, jointly implemented with GOAL, aiming to improve safety, expand services, and strengthen the influence of women in peacebuilding processes.
The initiative reflects a growing recognition that gender-based violence (GBV) must be tackled not only through crisis response but by reinforcing long-term systems of inclusion, empowerment, and accountability.
A Regional Response to SGBV in Conflict Zones
The project—“Strengthening Women’s Empowerment and Safeguarding Communities and SGBV Victims in Sudan”—is designed to address the alarming rates of sexual and gender-based violence affecting women and girls in conflict-affected communities.
The programme will expand safe spaces, enhance survivor support services, and train local responders in trauma-informed care and protection.
The SGBV Specialist will serve as Christian Aid’s technical lead on the project, ensuring all interventions are delivered effectively and in line with best practices.
This includes coordinating with GOAL’s project team in Sudan, working with field managers, and building the capacity of community-based organisations and civil society actors.
The position also involves delivering training and mentorship to frontline staff, supporting gender-sensitive programme monitoring, and deputising for the Project Coordinator when needed.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Christian Aid is looking for a seasoned professional with at least five years of experience in gender programming, SGBV prevention and response, and social behaviour change.
Candidates must hold a degree in Social Sciences, Law, Gender Studies, Psychology, or a related discipline.
A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is considered an added advantage.
Applicants should also demonstrate:
- Strong understanding of SASA! methodology and experience applying it in marginalised or high-risk communities
- Practical knowledge of advocacy, gender mainstreaming, and participatory approaches
- Experience working with civil society organisations and women-led movements
- Ability to design and deliver gender-sensitive monitoring and evaluation tools
- A track record of collaboration across humanitarian and development actors, especially in fragile contexts
This is a rare opportunity for a dedicated gender specialist to lead strategic interventions that not only support survivors but also influence systemic change in deeply underserved areas.
