Feed the Children, an international relief and development organization, is seeking to recruit a Finance Officer for its Kenya office.
The position will be based in Nairobi, with responsibilities focused on managing core financial functions and ensuring compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.

Feed the Children has operated in Kenya since 1993, implementing programs in nutrition, education, child protection, and community development.
The organization began its work in Dagoretti, Nairobi, before expanding operations to other parts of the country.
Globally, the nonprofit was founded in 1979 and maintains its headquarters in Oklahoma City, United States.
Its programming in Kenya focuses on supporting vulnerable children and households through a range of school-based feeding, health, and livelihood initiatives.
Finance Officer Role
According to the vacancy announcement, the Finance Officer will support the organization’s finance department by managing day-to-day financial operations.
This includes processing transactions, reconciling accounts, maintaining documentation, and ensuring timely reporting in line with donor and internal standards.
The position reports to the Finance and Administration Manager and will involve regular interaction with vendors, program staff, and external regulatory agencies.
It is a full-time position based in Nairobi.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves a broad set of financial duties. These include:
- Processing payments, invoices, and financial documentation.
- Preparing journal entries and posting transactions into the organization’s accounting system.
- Managing bank reconciliations, vendor payments, and staff advances.
- Supporting budget development and expenditure tracking across projects.
- Monitoring compliance with statutory requirements such as tax obligations and annual financial filings.
- Assisting in external and internal audits through the timely provision of documentation
- Conducting financial spot checks and risk assessments at the field level when necessary.
- Supporting the maintenance of a fixed asset register and generating depreciation schedules.
- Preparing financial reports and visual summaries for internal review.
The Finance Officer will also be involved in preparing periodic management accounts, monitoring project spending against approved budgets, and ensuring donor-specific reporting formats and deadlines are met.
Required Qualifications
Candidates are expected to have prior experience in financial management.
- A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification (preferred)
- Experience in financial roles, ideally within non-profit or donor-funded settings
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Understanding of donor financial requirements and reporting standards
