The Her Voice Fund
Feminist and women’s rights organisations in the Global South now have an opportunity to access flexible funding through the Her Voice Fund (HVF), an initiative designed to support advocacy and policy influencing efforts.
The fund targets groups and activists working to advance gender equality, particularly those representing marginalised communities.
The Her Voice Fund, managed by Womankind, aims to fill a longstanding gap in financing for women’s rights advocacy.
Despite their crucial role in driving social change, organisations advocating for progressive women’s rights often face limited budgets, especially when influencing policy at national, regional, or international levels.
HVF seeks to empower these organisations with resources that allow them to respond quickly and strategically to pressing issues.
Who Can Apply
The fund is open to women’s rights and feminist organisations based in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
Priority is given to groups working with women who face intersecting forms of marginalisation, including women with disabilities, LBTQI+ women, young women, and incarcerated women communities often excluded from decision-making spaces.
Previous grantees illustrate the fund’s range and impact.
In Uganda, Maendeleo Ya Wanawake used their HVF grant to strengthen the implementation of laws addressing female genital mutilation, gender-based violence, and education, drafting two new laws approved by the Minister for Local Government.
In Ethiopia, Tarkanfi Sustainable Development (TSD) leveraged its funding to create media campaigns promoting gender equality in schools, tackling systemic barriers to girls’ education.
Meanwhile, Women and Land Zimbabwe (WLZ) conducted ‘Land for Her’ campaigns across ten districts, enabling rural women to know and claim their land rights.
Funding and Eligibility
Annual cycles of HVF are open to both formal partners and informal groups with previous HVF experience.
Formal partners may apply for up to GBP 40,000 for 24 months, while informal groups can apply for up to GBP 20,000 for the same period.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Identify as a women’s rights or feminist organisation
- Address systemic barriers to gender equality
- Advance feminist agendas in advocacy spaces at various levels
- Demonstrate collaboration or a commitment to strengthening feminist movements
- Adopt an intersectional approach centering the voices of the most marginalised women
