Kenyan actress, producer, and social advocate Catherine Kamau, popularly known as Kate Actress, has been appointed Global Goodwill Ambassador for the upcoming Bill Gates & Friends social movement, a global initiative celebrating the Microsoft co-founder’s 70th birthday through action, storytelling, and collaboration.
The movement, launching later this month in the United States, will rally changemakers from around the world to continue Gates’ legacy of innovation, education, and humanitarian service.
In her new role, Catherine will represent Africa, focusing on Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria, three regions central to the campaign’s impact agenda.
Her appointment underscores her growing influence as a creative, advocate, and cultural bridge between African audiences and the global community.
Sharing the news on her social media pages, Catherine wrote:
“Big news! I’ve recently been announced as the Global Goodwill Ambassador for the @thisisbillgates @70 celebrations. From Nairobi to Lagos to Johannesburg, I will be uniting Africa’s voice, honouring Bill Gates’ legacy while inspiring the future of health, education, and innovation.”
In another reel shared by entertainment outlet PMTV, she added:
“So today, I am deeply humbled to announce my acceptance to attend Mr. Bill Gates’ seventieth birthday celebrations as a Goodwill Ambassador.”
The Bill Gates 70th Birthday Celebration, scheduled for October 28, 2025, is envisioned as more than a birthday event; it’s a global call to action.
Organized by a coalition of Gates’ friends, leaders, and changemakers, the celebration will highlight his lifelong contributions to health, education, technology, and philanthropy, while mobilizing partners to carry his vision forward.
Leading Africa’s Voice in a Global Movement
As Goodwill Ambassador, Catherine will play a leading role in activating African participation in the movement. She will:
- Onboard changemakers and influencers across Africa to join a digital campaign showcasing Gates’ humanitarian legacy.
- Collaborate with the Campaign Anthem Artist to co-create a unifying global anthem reflecting shared values of innovation, empathy, and service.
- Lead storytelling and engagement initiatives ahead of the Monthly Humanitarian Legacy Festivals starting February 2026 and the Future of Humanity Initiative, both launching as part of the birthday campaign.
Digital activations will also include:
- A Pre-Birthday Wishes Campaign, inviting the public to share messages using hashtags #BillGatesAt70, #CelebrateImpact, and #FutureofHumanity.
- Recognition and giveaways for nominated changemakers across Africa.
- Tokens of appreciation for supporters and participants contributing to the global tribute.
The Future of Humanity Initiative, inspired by Bill Gates’ decades of work, brings together a diverse coalition of global leaders, innovators, and philanthropists who have collectively pledged more than $3 billion to advance his mission.
These founding changemakers will be formally introduced during the October celebration.
Designed as an honorary 70th birthday gift, the initiative reflects Gates’ enduring dream that “every child has enough food, access to healthcare, and the opportunity to attend school and college.”
The event will bring together leaders, innovators, and changemakers to reflect on his legacy and build on his vision for the next generation.
