Webinar to explore emerging research agendas in African Philanthropy

The webinar, titled “Contemporary Issues and Emerging Research Agendas in Philanthropy,” will take place on September 2, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. SAST.

The session is the third webinar in the Emerging Scholars Series, which is designed to strengthen research capacity among emerging philanthropy scholars from sub-Saharan Africa.

Discussions will focus on emerging issues shaping philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, including innovative nonprofit financing, artificial intelligence and philanthropy, and climate philanthropy.

The webinar will also consider how these issues can inform new research agendas in African contexts.

The organisers say the series gives emerging scholars a platform to engage with research questions affecting the philanthropy sector, while encouraging scholarly exchange and collaboration.

The webinar comes as philanthropy in Africa continues to evolve, with researchers and practitioners examining new approaches to financing social change, the implications of emerging technologies and the role of philanthropy in responding to climate-related challenges.

The session will bring together scholars and philanthropy researchers to explore how these developments can shape future research and strengthen understanding of African philanthropic practice.
