Children at the Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage in Tanzania are set to receive educational and sports supplies as part of a charity expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro involving the Northampton Saints Foundation and Legend Expeditions.
The expedition, scheduled for September 14–23, 2026, will take participants along the Lemosho Route to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point at 5,895 metres.
While participants will raise funds for Northampton Saints Foundation’s programmes supporting education, employability and social inclusion in the UK, the expedition will also create a direct link with communities around Kilimanjaro.
Legend Expeditions, founded by Jack Fleckney, already works with and supports the Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage, located near the mountain’s base.
Participants plan to visit the orphanage during the expedition and deliver practical supplies, including books, pens and sports equipment.
Fleckney, who will lead the climb, said the expedition would bring together his long-standing support for the Foundation and his work in Tanzania.
“Being able to bring together the Foundation I’ve backed for so many years with the business we’ve built in Tanzania is something I’m genuinely excited about,” he said.
“Kilimanjaro grabbed hold of my heart the first time I stepped onto its slopes, and I’m excited to share that feeling with people from Northamptonshire as we form a team and go after the roof of Africa for an incredible cause. Twende (let’s go)!”
The planned visit will allow participants to engage with children living near the mountain while providing resources that can support learning and recreation.
The initiative highlights how international fundraising expeditions can combine charitable giving with direct community engagement in the destinations where they take place.
