Nurturing all-rounded individuals: Kenyan organization giving hope to the under-privileged

When you meet Jane Wathome, her compassion for others is so clear. Her empathy is visible from her interaction with new and known people alike. Perhaps this explains her current role at Beacon of Hope where she serves as the Executive Director. The Kenyan-based organization seeks to bring hope and catalyse sustainable transformation by uplifting the spiritual, physical, economic and social well-being of vulnerable individuals, families and communities”.

The organization runs an   integrated model   that has served   nearly a 1,000,000 individuals since 2002.  Currently the organization has a presence in Kajiado, Nairobi and Machakos counties. With a team of 136 staff members and nine advisory board members, the organization intends to scale up the model to other counties in Kenya and countries in Africa.

One of Jane’s major achievements was spearheading  the fundraising in record time for the acquisition of 8.2 acre property in Ongata Rongai,  and  overseeing the construction of a purpose built  community centre offering an variety of services to the community that include, Medical facility, Primary school, Technical training College, Handicraft production unit.

Mrs. Wathome is a visionary leader motivated to better the lives of the less privileged. She is passionate about empowerment and has a zeal for excellence in all spheres. In her career spanning over 30 years she as accrued extensive executive leadership and management knowledge and skills, project initiation and management and setting structures that sustainably support the projects. She has developed and maintained close working relationships with local and international partners.

She holds Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nairobi and Masters in Biblical Counseling from International Leadership University. Complementary training from Strathmore Business School on one year owner manager executive program; Management Development Training for Managers running HIV/AIDS Healthcare programs sponsored by UCLA University in California, Johnson and Johnson   and Amref  Kenya(MDI); Bullet Proof Manager Course by Raiser Resource Management.
