Safaricom through its youth platform Safaricom Hook carried out the second edition of its series of youth empowerment bootcamps dubbed ‘Safaricom Hook Circle,’ at Kenyatta University Main Campus.
In a press release, the two-day bootcamp, which was run on 27th and 28th February 2025, targetted over 2,000 youth at the institution and more than 200,000 virtual participants. It focused on empowering young people around 3 pillars: technology, career, and culture.
“Safaricom Hook Circle aims to connect youth all over Kenya to opportunities that will propel them to succeed in their area of interest. In collaboration with our partners, we are looking to build on the success of the first edition held in Chuka last year, where we had great engagements around financial literacy, tech-forward upskilling, career readiness and culture as a form of expression and income,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC.
In the Culture Hook, which seeks to provide youth access to their passion points, partners such as Baze Radio, Boomplay and Outlook gave masterclasses on how to monetize content or break into the gaming, art or fashion scene.
Under the Technology Hook, the bootcamp unpacked skills for a tech future, led by partners including Huawei, Transsion (Tecno & Infinix), Google – Gemini, and Power Learn Project, which had offered 500 Software Development Scholarships through Safaricom Hook.
The Career Hook, which seeks to empower the youth to chase their hustle or fulfil their career ambitions, saw partners such as Brighter Monday, Wowzi, Trace Academia, Avunja and Twiva provide industry insights.
Recognizing the importance of mental health and financial literacy, the bootcamp also featured sessions by Chiromo Hospital, Absa through its Ready to Work Program, and Old Mutual.
