Girls Not Bride
Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage is hiring an Evidence to Advocacy Specialist to lead its work on child marriage in conflict and crisis-affected settings.
The full-time, two-year fixed-term position can be based in either Nairobi (Kenya) or Dakar (Senegal).
Candidates must already have the right to work in their chosen location for at least two years.
This specialist role sits within Girls Not Brides’ Learning, Evidence and Impact Directorate, with a matrix line to the Advocacy team.
It is central to strengthening evidence, driving global advocacy, and supporting civil society actors tackling child, early, and forced marriage and unions (CEFMU) in emergencies and fragile contexts.
Work Overview
The specialist will work across sectors—including child protection, education, gender-based violence (GBV), and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)—to make sure that the voices and needs of girls are heard and acted upon in emergency response frameworks.
They will help build a stronger evidence base, create learning tools, and identify advocacy opportunities to influence key actors from UN agencies to local grassroots groups.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for several critical functions:
- Lead and curate evidence on child marriage in conflict and crisis-affected settings, including learning from Girls Not Brides members.
- Translate data into influence by synthesising insights into briefings, case studies, and messaging materials to support advocacy and awareness-raising efforts.
- Engage in cross-sector partnerships with civil society, UN actors, researchers, and donors to promote coordination, share lessons, and identify policy gaps.
- Shape global and regional advocacy efforts through participation in coalitions and policy networks focused on humanitarian and gender justice priorities.
- Support member organisations and national or state partnerships in their work to prevent and respond to CEFMU in crisis contexts.
- Contribute to organisational learning, strategic planning, and proposal development in alignment with Girls Not Brides’ broader mission.
The position may require occasional international travel and collaboration with teams across time zones, though much of the work will be home-based with IT support provided.
Candidate Profile
Girls Not Brides is looking for a dynamic professional with significant experience in the humanitarian or development sector. Applicants should demonstrate:
- Proven experience working on gender equality, girls’ rights, or child marriage in conflict or crisis-affected environments.
- Strong understanding of humanitarian architecture, including funding flows, coordination systems, and policy entry points.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships across civil society, UN systems, and donors, with an inclusive and collaborative style.
- Skills in evidence synthesis, strategic influencing, and policy engagement.
- Fluency in English is essential; French or other relevant languages are highly desirable.
- Experience working remotely with multicultural teams is an advantage.
Familiarity with what works to prevent and respond to CEFMU, as well as strong networks in the humanitarian space, will be key assets for applicants.
