Nigerian Afrobeats megastar Tiwa Savage has officially launched a major philanthropic initiative aimed at transforming the African music landscape by identifying, nurturing, and empowering the continent’s next generation of creative talent.
The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation (TSMF), unveiled on February 25, 2026, represents a landmark step in supporting not only performers but the whole ecosystem of creatives behind the music, including producers, songwriters, sound engineers, and industry professionals.
The foundation is designed to address longstanding gaps in access to professional music education and mentorship across Africa’s vibrant but under-resourced creative sectors.
Savage, one of Afrobeats’ most internationally celebrated artists, says the initiative is a way of “building at home,” giving back to the continent that helped shape her remarkable global career.
“I wanted to build something that opens people’s eyes to the full scope of what’s possible in music,” Savage said in a statement announcing the foundation.
“Music is more than artists on stage; it’s the composers, producers, engineers, and creatives who bring sound to life. This foundation is my way of creating a platform that helps African music creatives understand what’s possible and gives them access, guidance, and support to pursue those paths with confidence.”
A Partnership with Berklee College of Music
The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation is launching with a partnership with the Berklee College of Music, one of the world’s most well-known contemporary music institutions and Savage’s own alma mater.
The foundation’s flagship program, “Berklee in Nigeria: Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Program,” is a fully funded, four-day immersive training set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from April 23 to 26, 2026.
The initiative will bring Berklee faculty and music education experts directly to Africa for the first time, offering hands-on instruction in live performance, songwriting, music production, and the business of music.
A total of 100 aspiring creatives from across Africa will be selected to participate, gaining access to sessions tailored to developing both their artistic and professional skills.
The program reflects a commitment to bridging the continent’s music industry with global standards of training and practice.
Beyond the Stage: Nurturing the Creative Ecosystem
Unlike many traditional talent programs that focus solely on performers, the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation emphasises the entire spectrum of careers in music.
From sound engineering and music business strategy to composition and production, TSMF aims to cultivate professionals who can thrive behind the scenes and contribute to an enduring music industry infrastructure in Africa.
Savage highlighted this broader vision, saying that music careers can be meaningful and sustainable outside the spotlight.
She pointed to composers who score films, creators of music for global campaigns, and artists who use music as a tool for healing as examples of powerful, impactful roles that deserve structured support.
“Afrobeats has captured the world’s attention, but an industry cannot stand on artists alone,” Savage added.
“Behind every global hit are the producers, engineers, publishers, innovators and business minds who shape culture.”
Applications and Opportunities
Applications for the first program under the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation are open through March 20, 2026, with selected participants receiving the training at no tuition cost.
While travel and accommodation to Lagos will be the responsibility of attendees, the foundation and its partners are working to make the experience as accessible as possible, particularly for creatives from underrepresented or underserved communities.
Beyond the intensive program, the foundation’s long-term goals include expanding access to mentoring networks, professional development opportunities and potentially establishing additional training platforms across Africa.
As Afrobeats continues to grow as a global phenomenon, initiatives like TSMF are emerging as crucial investments in sustaining and diversifying the continent’s creative economy.
Impact and Future Prospects
Industry observers have widely praised the launch as a transformative move for African music.
By combining world-class instruction with mentorship and strategic support, the foundation could help unlock opportunities for emerging talent to compete on global stages and shape the future of music from within the continent.
For Savage, the launch of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation is both a personal milestone and a statement of belief in the power of African creativity.
As she continues to champion the artists and professionals behind the music, the foundation stands as a bold step toward building more inclusive, accessible and sustainable pathways for African talent.
