Questions about governance, justice, and accountability continue to shape discussions across Africa.
From the role of public institutions to the participation of citizens in decision-making, these issues remain closely linked to broader conversations about development and social change.
Brian Kagoro is among those who have spent years engaging with these debates.
A constitutional lawyer and Pan-African thinker, he has worked across civil society, policy, and international development, contributing to discussions on governance, human rights, democracy, and economic justice.
Today, Kagoro serves as Managing Director of Programs and Africa Geo Lead at the Open Society Foundations.
The organisation supports initiatives focused on justice, accountable governance, human rights, and inclusive development, working with partners across Africa and other regions.
Many of the issues connected to Kagoro’s work continue to attract attention within philanthropy and development.
There is growing interest in how societies build accountable institutions, expand civic participation, and respond to inequality.
Questions about power, representation, and access to opportunities are also becoming increasingly important as countries navigate social, political, and economic change.
These conversations extend beyond governments and policymakers.
Philanthropic organisations, civil society groups, and community leaders are also examining how resources can support more inclusive and equitable outcomes, and how different sectors can work together to address long-standing challenges.
Kagoro’s experience connects to many of these discussions, particularly those focused on governance, justice, and citizen participation.
His perspective adds to wider conversations about the systems and institutions that shape people’s lives and the role they play in creating lasting change.
These themes are expected to feature at the 10th East Africa Philanthropy Conference, which will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 16–20 June 2026, bringing together philanthropy practitioners, funders, civil society leaders, researchers, and policymakers from across the region and beyond.
