High-Level Conference To Explore the Role of Trade in Ending Poverty and Acting on Climate Change

The 10th WTO Ministerial Conference comes at a crucial point in history, as the world, guided by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the outcome of the Paris COP 21 conference, embarks on a difficult road to end poverty and to stem climate change.

Organized on the sidelines of this conference, the Trade and Development Symposium will explore the ways, in which trade can help to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals and climate action agreed by world’s leaders this year.

During the High-Level Symposium, Ministers and Heads of international organizations will identify concrete actions – including multilateral rules and policies, regional integration, environmentally sustainable economic activities, and private sector efforts – that can ensure trade plays a constructive role in building an equitable, sustainable future.

The discussion will be followed by the launch of UNEP’s Environment and Trade Hub, a capacity-building initiative which will assist countries to harness the full potential of sustainable trade for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
